Hot gas filtration

Dahlman is an experienced supplier of hot gas filtration systems. Often sintered metal filter media is selected, but extensive tests have shown that this media can get into trouble with biomass gasification product gas.

We therefore recommend the use of special ceramic filter media, inert to the gaseous tars and suitable for high operational temperatures, so filtration well above the tar dew point is possible.

The proposed Dahlman hot gas filter is depending on several design parameters, resulting in optimal filtration characteristics that contribute to a successful and reliable operation of the filter system. We use a special internal design which creates an internal down flow of the gas. This ensures that the solid particles, which include light and small fly ashes are sufficiently removed from the filter surface during a cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle is demonstrated by underneath figure:

The described design is the result of extensive research using CFD analyses. The design proved itself in critical refinery applications and is recognised by leading technology companies world wide. Our hot gas filter contains an integrated surface section ensuring easy access in case necessary and a gas tight system, which is critical in these applications

Reliable and safe operation is always of critical importance, especially for these type of applications. We will give you an advice concerning the required appendages and instrumentation to achieve a high security level during operation. Special start-up and shut down procedures which are essential for proper operation of the hot gas filter, will be provided by Dahlman.

Pilot test equipment:

Thanks to our thorough research and test efforts, we are in the possession of two fully equipped pilot hot gas filters, designed for operation at 450 ºC and equipped with automatic hot gas blow back cleaning systems. The small system is suitable for 6.6 Nm3/hr at atmospheric systems. The larger system is suitable for 200 Nm3/hr, also at elevated pressure (designed for 8 barg) and can be equipped with sintered metal, ceramic or cloth filter media. We can therefore offer hot gas filter test trajectories upon your request. Please also check our test equipment overview.
